The Framework

The book by Simon Sinek “Start With Why” inspired me to find my vision, or my WHYs. Additionally, my HOWs describe my values, the conditions, and the environments I create and need to flourish. 

This framework is about a purpose bigger than me and I use it as a compass in every area of my life.

My WHYs

  1. I want to make the world a better place.
  2. Every person should be treated with respect and dignity.
  3. The world would be a better place if everyone did what they love and followed their calling.
  4. I believe in the power, resource and potential of human connection and bonding.
  5. World peace begins with peace at birth.
  6. When women are treated with respect at birth, our society becomes healthier.
  7. If we invest in women and midwives, we invest in a thriving future generation. It is important to educate future midwives well.
  8. Midwifery is an autonomous, wise profession that keeps the balance between tradition and science.
  9. Every woman has to have access to unbiased information, personalized options and healthcare professionals working in integrity.
  10. Midwives and doctors need to work in partnership and mutual respect in order to achieve optimal outcomes for mothers, babies and families.
  11. Breastfeeding is best for mother and baby.
  12. Homebirth is a safe and resourceful option if the parents are well-informed and both want to do it, if both woman and baby are healthy, if it is supported by two well-trained midwives (and another lay birth supporter) and is integrated in the broader health care system.
