Silverette: The ally of breastfeeding mothers – Klife

Sore nipples: We spoke with Dimitra Koutoumanou about the solution to a chronic problem

Sore and sore nipples are a headache for most breastfeeding women, but also a deterrent for some. We spoke with independent midwife, Dimitra Koutoumano, about a product that has come to our country and promises to put an end to this problem.

– A very common phenomenon – especially during the first days of breastfeeding – for women is intense nipple pain. Is it the frequency or incorrect attachment of the baby to the breast that is responsible?

It is very important that the woman is informed and prepared for breastfeeding already during her pregnancy. The most suitable health professionals for this purpose are independent midwives and lactation consultants. As it is normal for a newborn to breastfeed up to twelve or more times within twenty-four hours, there are certainly unprecedented conditions for the nipples, especially if it is the first child. Then it is of utmost importance to have properly documented guidance, which will support the new mother in the correct and painless attachment of the infant to her breast.

– After endless discussions and several different pieces of advice (medical and non-medical) for healing nipples, has the solution for hundreds of thousands of new mothers arrived in Greece?

A fantastic new product has now arrived in Greece (and Cyprus), an ally for the breastfeeding mother! Silverette® are two lightweight silver cups that help heal irritated or injured nipples. They are the most valuable breastfeeding aid!

 – How do Silverette® breastfeeding cups work and why are they an important ally for women, in relation to treatments, techniques and other theoretical or practical solutions?

Silverette® are forged from silver. The healing properties of silver have been known since ancient times, as Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, refers to them. Silver has antimicrobial, antifungal, therapeutic effects and at the same time cools and protects against friction with clothes. The cups are placed on the nipples between breastfeedings, where moist healing with breast milk takes place. They are worn through the bra and can also be placed under a nursing pad. Silverette® can be sterilized normally and is a zero-waste product, completely safe that lasts forever!

-What advice would you give to a new mom who wants to breastfeed?

As a midwife, I would tell her that breastfeeding and her breast milk is the most precious gift she can give to her baby and to herself! The child benefits from the ideal and personalized composition of nutrients that is adjusted according to its needs and development. In the long term, the child has a lower chance of developing obesity or cardiovascular diseases. In addition, we know that women who breastfeed their children have a lower risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer and lower rates of osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases in old age. So my advice would be to seek the obstetric support that suits them and definitely listen to their instincts regarding the best care for their child!
