Disobedient Mom – A feminist look at motherhood

The book “Disobedient Mom” offers a subversive and bold perspective on motherhood; a perspective that develops as a harsh critique of both the «patriarchal motherhood» that enslaves women, and the «neoliberal motherhood» that subordinates the mother-child relationship to the dictates and needs of the market. With a penetrating feminist perspective, Esther Vivas destabilizes and deconstructs a series of deeply rooted perceptions, offering different ways and tools to approach and, ultimately, experience aspects of motherhood such as infertility, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, postpartum depression, and parenting. Rejecting ideas such as the «perfect mother» and «motherhood as destiny» as convenient myths of the system, Esther Vivas addresses a call to disobedience within an emancipatory project that empowers and liberates those who are mothers, but also those who are not; those who wish to become mothers, but also those or those who participate in raising children.
